David Bowie - "Lazarus" (2016)

Hello Friends,

David Bowie released his 25th proper record, Blackstar, just days before he died. (Actually it was released on January 8th which was also the singer's 69th birthday!)

Not only has the album garnered praise from fans and critics alike, but this past week it became Bowie's first record EVER to ever debut at # 1 on the Billboard charts!

In all likelihood, Bowie didn't care about charts or units, but still, how incredible and so very poignant!

This video is the second single from the album, "Lazarus".

David Bowie - "I'm Afraid of Americans" (1997)

We really wish we could re-cast this video with Donald Trump in the Trent Reznor role!

From Bowie's 1997 album, Earthling.

David Bowie - "Space Oddity" Original Video (1969)

Happy Friday Friends,

We're still reeling a bit over the death of Mr. Bowie.

We thought this would help cheer us up, but it made it worse!

And the stars look very different today...

ENJOY!

David Bowie - "Jump They Say" (1993)

Here's a bit of a lesser-known Bowie song from his 1993 album, Black Tie White Noise.

Not one his more popular albums, but something we always liked.

Produced by Niles Rodgers, its a tough album to peg.  There's a funky cover of a Cream classic ("I Feel Free") featuring Mick Ronson on lead guitar.  A Morrissey cover ("I Know Its Gonna Happen Someday").  A duet on the title track with R&B singer Al B. Sure and this song about the suicide of his schizophrenic half-brother, Terry Burns, 8 years earlier.

Apparently, his relationship with his brother and struggles with his family's history of mental illness was a major catalyst and theme for much of Bowie's work.  Go back to Hunky Dory and listen to "The Bewlay Brothers" for a refresher course.

The video is directed by Mark Romanek.

David Bowie - "Queen Bitch" (1972)

Hello Friends,

Here's a performance from the recently departed David Bowie on The Old Grey Whistle Test programme in 1972.

Great fucking performance!

He will be missed!

RIP David Bowie

More sad news today friends.

It seems we lost another legend to cancer.

David Bowie passed away last night at the age of 69.

Words cannot express what a true bummer this is!

We've been huge Bowie fans for most of our lives and there's pretty much nothing he's done that we DON'T like/love.

Godspeed Starman!

The Specials - "A Message To You Rudy" (1979)

Hey Friends,

Stop your messin' around!

Here's another gem from the Old Grey Whistle Test!

Time you straighten right out kids!

Alice Cooper - "Under My Wheels" (1971)

Hello Friends,

Another gem from the Old Grey Whistle Test!  This from their debut season in 1971!

Doesn't get much better than the original Alice Cooper Band now does it?

The Wailers - "Stir It Up" (1973)

HaPPy NeW YeaRs FriEnds!

We're kicking off 2016 by binge-watching some classic performances on the Old Grey Whistle Test!

Here's an early one from Bob Marley and the boys from 1973 featuring a great and incredibly understated guitar solo by Peter Tosh.

Hopefully its just like we hope our 2016 goes: great and incredibly understated.

Enjoy!
